Brighton Open Day

A fanTASTIC collaboration between Angus I'm-A-Jock MacKenzie and myself. Brief: to design an A2 poster, A4 online pdf and A5 flyer to advertise the Faculty of Arts Open Day(s) at the greatest university in the world, Brighton.
We had a debate with the tutor before we started about whether a poster like this one needs an image with a concept or whether a beautiful image that moves the viewer in the some way will do the trick. We decided to go along the "visual poetry" road, and experimented for hours with ink in water, glitter in light and water, throwing paint, etc. (Will get some of the experiments up on here soon).
After the interim crit, feedback encouraged us to stick with this image, so we worked for hours finding the right typeface, colour and layout, and these are the results. First two images are small flyers and the last three are large A2 poster designs. The final versions we are presenting are the centered flyer and the Plantin poster (Didot looks too much like an opera poster and we're not sure about the News Gothic side-aligned poster and how accessible it is to viewers). Annoyingly, blogspot messes up the colours, the inks are a lot more vibrant in my indesign.
